エクスペリメンタル航空機とは？
米国では、教育・趣味目的で製作された自作航空機は、
エクスペリメンタル・カテゴリーの特別耐空証明を受け、一定の条件下で飛行できます。
機体の売買自体は禁止されていませんが、有償運航などには制限があります。
一方、日本では、通常の耐空証明の基準への適合証明が困難な自作航空機について、
期間・離着陸場所・飛行空域・操縦者などを定めた「試験飛行等の許可」により飛行する仕組みが設けられています。

Light-Sport Aircraft（LSA）は、小型・軽量航空機を対象に米国FAAが2004年に制度化したカテゴリーである。ASTM規格を活用して認証を合理化しており、完成機として認証されるS-LSAと、エクスペリメンタル航空機に分類されるE-LSAなどが存在する。
